Not me, nor anyone should

If you like a book I will NEVER judge you on the type of book or what book you pick.it could be books I happen to hate like twilight or it could be books I happen to love like Alice in Wonderland. But no matter what I will not judge you. I am a firm believer in everyone's individual opinion. Do what makes you happy. Read what makes you happy.

No thank you, I would not like a cuppa

I don't like tea. I genuinely do not like it. I wish I did, not because of the health benefits or anything like that. I wish I liked it so my sister will stop bugging me. It's just my sister, who loves tea, constantly asks me how I can even read books with a clear conscience.

You are welcome

A craft I have been doing recently is drawing the characters from books and turning them into bookmarks.
Here's how to do it.
1) Draw or print up the characters from the book.
2) Next, cut from a cereal box a rectangular strip of cardboard.
Make the strip approximately the length of the book, BUT slightly longer.
3) Cut out the characters.
4) Use clear tape to cover and laminate the characters. Tape birth the front and the back.
5) Tape it to the strip of cardboard and voila. You have your very own customized bookmark! :-)

The inner workings

I wish I could go into the mind of a writer. Like Edgar Allen Poe. That would be astounding. Or Lewis Carroll. That would be my dream.

Whoomp there it is

Im rereading Tha Fault in our Stars. (Amazing book by the way- so powerful and funny. You kind of feel guilty laughing at the jokes.) Anyway it amazes me what is inside people's brains. I have many ideas for books myself. It's just to many though. One idea replaces another with another and another. I wish I could think up a book concept and it would be real.

Why sis?

My sister hates reading. On her phone instead. Read woman.

A dying language

I was reading an old Time Magazine and it talked about  how a language dies out every like ten minutes. I find that devastating. I know English and Hebrew, but thats it. I wish I could learn every language on Earth. Im terrible at languages though. I dont know why, I love them. It still kills me that languages die out.

I guess I was wistful of reading

Wow. Even my doodles in class are books. Id say that this may be a little overboard, but reading has no downside.

I finished!

Okay so here is the final picture for All Summer in a Day.
The girl in the doorway is clearly Margot after she was just let out of the closet. Her face, her reaction is hidden but we can see the faces of the classmates that locked her in the closet. They are curious and guilty simultaneously. Margot is facing the newly started rain, having missed its breif end. The Golden Girl at the bottom of the stairs is the sun. She is so far but so close. A wistful hallucination if you will.

I love this short story, along with the somber feel of it.

All summer in a day

Im currently in the middle of a drawing from Ray Bradburys short story All Summer in a Day. Its about a young girl who moves to a planet that rains year round. All the other kids detest her since she remembers the sun. On the rainy planet the sun only comes out once in like seven years. One day the sun comes out, but when that happens the other kids lock her in a closet.

The story lacks a her reaction to being let out. I drew that. Well, I am drawing it. Ill upload a finished version later.

An update on Nancy Drew

UPDATE:
So apparently, I already shared my love with Nancy Drew with you, a few pages back.
So in my earlier post, you can see something new. My pictures I drew relating to her.

I LOVE NANCY DREW

I am fairly sure I haven't posted anything about my favorite heroine, Nancy Drew. She is my favorite. My idol. My childhood. I had a detective petiod for awhile due to her. I have read her books and her spin off series. I positively love Nancy Drew. I even play her video games. Actually they are really challenging and a lot of fun.
Ive drawn pictures, many pictures, of our favorite heroine. She is smart, classy, clever, sly and beautiful. She is my hero. I can't believe I haven't mentioned her books. One of my very favorites. Also I love her style. I try to dress in her classy sweaters and Oxfords. She was such a major influence in my life. This right here is the power of books. The absolute impact they have on people like me.Nancy Drew is my hero.
I live her mystery stories. If I can make this a piece of advice, Read Nancy Drew.

The fortress of knowledge

I wish more people read books. Reading is so important, I can't stress it enough. A goal of mine, to positively impact the world in a personal way, is to build a library. I want to build a castle, fill it with books and open it to the public. This one dream would accomplish so many ambitions of mine.

Its a dilemma

I'm not sure if I enjoy starting a new series or continuing an old series more.

Here, there, everywhere

I went on a trip this weekend and I forgot to bring any books. Huge mistake.
Here is some advice: Take a book wherever you go.

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish

Doctor Seuss is such an under appreciated literary genius.

I am Daphne Grimm today

Okay so today my hair is in two braids and I'm wearing a red sweater with a white collar. Something seemed kind of familiar then I realized what it was. Im dressed like Daphne Grimm from the Sisters Grimm series! This was completely accidental but totally AWESOME!

Although in reality I look more like Sabrina from the series. This was still an amazing coincidence!!!:-)

NOT really a comparision

Reading is comforting. If I ever just want to forget my troubles and venture off into a distant world, books let me do that.
People compare reading to television, but you really shouldn't -its so different. (I'm not saying you can't get absorbed into television.) You just can't really get lost in movies like you can in books. With books, your full, focused attention is on the task at hand, yet for television, it takes a lot more to become absorbed then it does for books.

A Divergent goverment

So I saw the trailer for Divergent, and my friend has been nagging me to read it for a while. So I just finished the first book - pretty cool. Its a world split up into factions divided by personality (Honest, brave, nice, etc) I was thinking about it and that's a pretty cool idea. Although its a little bad, considering what happens in the book, it would probably be effective. Everyone would have friends with compatible interests and that would be handy. All in all, its a pretty intriguing system.

the benefits of reading

A piece of advice:
Reading is a good way to avoid people.
You are rarely bothered if you are reading.
Since reading is so scarce these days, people assume it is for school or important.

Egyptian Eyelashes

So my sister loves make up and everything that I don't. I was in the bathroom and I saw in the trash can a tiny, hairy thing. Thinking it was a bug, I peered closely at it. Upon further inspection it was revealed to be a false eyelash. Clearly my sisters. I looked at it and the only thing I could think of was the scene in the Egypt Game edge April is obsessed with her eyelashes.

The power of books

So when I read, I get so incredibly absorbed into books, I can barely explain it. Its like I am there, experiencing it myself. I don't notice anything else and I lose track of time. Books are so incredible, I can literally visit another world through the pages of a book. Its so amazing.

The End

I was watching When Harry met Sally and I was thinking about what he said. When he talked about reading the end of a book first so if he dies, hell know how it ends. I did that today AND CAN I JUST SAY TO NEVER EVER DO THIS. IT IS HORRIBLE AND I CANNOT BELIEVE I DID IT.

I will never, ever read the end of a book first again.

Flowers

Everytime I step on a flower, a little part of me dies. So I thought up something poetic.

Your childhood ends when you step on a flower and react with apathy.

My own canto

So in my English class, we learned Dantes Inferno. For a project we had to make a canto of our own. I put hipsters in my canto. We had to make it in terza rima, such as Dante did. But I also made mine rhyme. I want to share it with you all.
Here it is.

Hipster Hell

I looked upon this newest world
in a circle so obscure
it's name I had never even heard.

Where they dressed in terry robes
plain and white as paper be:
they paid for their scorn.

This level carried all the hipsters,
I approached one warily and with
caution asked, "Excuse me mister."

Frightened, he had suddenly shouted
"Who goes there?" At quick glance
I saw that his vision was clouded.

He squinted, saying, "I cannot see
but a trifle." Focusing, the man
asked, "And who might you be?"

I told him quickly and asked of
this level of Hell that I was now in.
He pointed hurriedly above.

He spoke, "If you had judged
your fellow friends, then well
pal, you are now fudged.

If all that you had cared for
was to be haughty well then
you shall regret feeling superior.

I, along with many others
had spent our life judgmental
and scornful of our brothers.

I thought myself better
with my scarves and my blogs.
Now all that I am is just a regretter.

I now pay for my hipster crimes
with monstrous torture and horrible
punishments for the rest of time.

Up the rocky mountains you spy
there is all of the newest
computers, but void of wifi.

We dwell upon this mountainous range
we are all dressed as equals
no one different or strange.

Within the pits between these mounts
we can climb down to a place
 of skinny jeans- massive amounts.

But if we try to touch
these magical clothing, they run
away and give us no warmth.

Next to this  skinny jean pit lies
a burning hot latte river that is
flavored like those wretched pumpkin pies."

He scowled but I felt no pity for his sinning
I walked up towards the mountain
peak, practically grinning.

After treading the hills I reached
the cyber café with all its complex
computers, yet to be breached.

They shined and they glistened
like Paradise must be to a man
close to death who suddenly breathed.

But the man cannot reach this shining
and mystical salvation so near,
so he goes about sulking and whining.

I turned to my guide who began
to speak. I rolled my eyes at
his irksome explanations again.

I watched the robed men reach upon
the machines with a small hope
but alas, there was none.

I watched pitilessly for these hipsters, I too hate.
I do not feel sadness for these men who
felt so very high, superior and great.

As I followed my guide along to the next zone
I watched the man that I conversed with
look  at me as he moaned,

"We thought we were great
we thought we were so cool
but all that we did was utterly hate."

A double edged sword

I have to read every single night or I can't fall asleep. And even then it is hard since I am so revved up by reading that its hard to fall asleep. Its a no win situation.

The price of knoledge

Barnes and Noble is far too expensive. I'm buying books - books should cost less, so more people are able to read them.

Beauty and the book

One of my favorite Disney princesses. She is intellectual and loves reading.
Belle is definitely a mascot for book lovers.

Pencils that are Zen

To everyone out there looking for some intellectual, inspirational reading material on the internet.
Go to Zenpencils.com
I love reading their inspirational comics.
 zenpencils.com

I sleep among the novels

Hanukkah passed recently and all I asked for was a gift card to Barnes and Noble. I live at that place.

Digitopolis

I was sitting in class and our college counselor came to talk to us.
She was talking about the SAT Subject tests and that a language is easier if you are form the place where it is spoken, clearly. So the kid beside me turns to me and asks, "So would the calculus tests be easy if I were from Digitopolis?" I just grin and say, "Phantom Tollbooth?" A special bond created by books passed between us - this is why books are great.

Hot Chocolate with Matilda

I was reading Matilda (I love that book. If you have not read it, then do.) Matilda is a child genius whose parents are terrible. So she gets books from the library to read and nurtures herself. I was at the point where she was alone reading, drinking hot chocolate and being perfectly snug. I felt an overwhelming need to make hot chocolate and read with Matilda. So I did. The affects that books have are astounding. Here, I only made hot chocolate, but who knows what books could do. Books have power.

The only proper definition

Books:
A portal to an alternate universe where you can experience the magical life of another.

"Best book ever"

I think my favorite thing is when books have super obscure reviews. Its like "Best plot in decades" - The Laundromat on Fifth street. Or "Dramatic plot twist"- My friend, Gerald, from middle school.
Then there are those authors who totally parody that. It's so great. NOTE: I f you have not read the back of Tina Feys, Bossypants.... DO IT!!

A comparison of my picture and the actual one

To further emphasize my predictions of the movie Frozen.
I realize this is not so connected to reading and such. But don't forget the Snow Queen.

I PREDICTED FROZEN!!!!!

I would like to share something with you all. So the other day I saw the trailer for the movie Frozen. It looked good and since I like the tale of the Snow Queen I decised I want to see it. So earlier I was looking through a few old drawings of mine from October and I found these pictures.
LET ME JUST SAY THAT I PREDICTED FROZEN!!!! I DREW A SCANDINAVIAN PRINCESS ( since I am Swedish and thought to make one) and AND I EVEN DREW THE SNOW QUEEN (since I love to draw fairytales)!!!!!
I predicted Frozen. OMYGOODNESS

Literature class

I love literature class.
It is literally a class devoted to studying books.
So great.

Jack and Annie facts

I know a little bit about everything all due to the Magic Tree House series.

These are downright awesome!

When I stumble across something I find interesting I often screenshot it or take a picture of it. So that I can come back and marvel at it. I have screenshots of many interesting book pictures.

I take no credit for these. I only found them online.
They are quite amazing. I have included a few.

Convincingly unconvinced

My sister hates reading. We are total opposites. So over the summer in an attempt to stimulate her inate love of reading, I sent her a plethora of reading quotes and inspirational book related texts. Check out some of our conversations!
